Archiving Cultural Spaces in Austin, Texas

The majority of cultural centers in Austin that are archived by the Cultural Asset Mapping Project (CAMP) (2018) lie beyond the extent of the eastern crescent

This atlas re-visualizes CAMP through a heat density of 3’000 recorded cultural spaces within the city. The mapping project was implemented in 2018 as an initiative of the Cultural Arts Division of the Economic Development Department to “map the places and resources important to Austin’s cultural identity and creativity.” A majority of these spaces are inaccessible to the eastern portion of the city. It is also worth noting the concentration of cultural spaces in the city’s center and that some community spaces in East Austin might not be included in CAMP’s survey of cultural spaces.
